Frequently asked questions

Control can’t find my TV.

Make sure your TV is on and on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone, not a guest network. Then open Add TV and pull down to search again. If it still isn’t listed, choose Enter IP Address; you’ll find the address in your TV’s network settings.

Which TVs work with Control?

Samsung Smart TVs from 2016 on, LG webOS TVs, Roku TVs and players (including TCL, Hisense, Sharp, Insignia and onn.), Google TV and Android TV (including Chromecast with Google TV and Sony, TCL and Hisense Google TVs), Sony Bravia, Vizio SmartCast, Philips and Panasonic Viera from 2012 to 2019. Control also works with any TV your Home Assistant server controls. Settings › Supported TVs has the full list.

My TV asks me to pair again.

Open Settings, choose the TV and tap Reconnect, then accept the prompt or enter the code your TV shows. If you reset your TV or removed Control from its list of devices, it needs to pair again once.

My Roku says “Control by mobile apps” is off.

On your Roku, go to Settings › System › Advanced system settings › Control by mobile apps, and set Network access to Default or Permissive.

The TV won’t turn on from Control.

Many TVs turn off their network in standby. On Samsung and LG, turn on the setting that lets mobile devices turn the TV on, often called Power On with Mobile or Quick Start+. On Sony, turn on Remote start. Google TV, Roku, Vizio and Philips usually turn on without any change.

How does Skip Ads work?

Tap Skip Ad when an ad starts. After the wait you choose, Control presses OK, which selects the ad’s Skip button in apps like YouTube. For waits over 30 seconds, keep Control open: iOS can pause apps in the background.

How do I use Siri or Ask?

Say a phrase with “Control” in it, like “Turn the TV off with Control.” Settings › Siri & Shortcuts lists them. Ask, in the sparkles menu, takes requests in your own words and needs Apple Intelligence.

How do I add Control to Control Center or my Lock Screen?

Settings › Widgets & Controls walks through each one: Control Center, the Action button, the Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets. The Lock Screen remote appears on its own while Control is in the background; you can turn it off in Settings.

Does Control collect any data?

No. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Control talks only to the TVs on your home network. The Privacy Policy has the details.
