Control doesn’t collect, sell, or share any information about you. It has no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking. It talks only to devices on your home network.
Information We Collect
None. Control has no servers, and the app doesn’t send information about you, your TVs, or how you use it to the developer or to anyone else.
Information Stored on Your iPhone
To work, Control keeps a few things on your device only:
- The TVs you add: their names, network addresses, models, and, when the TV reports it, a hardware (MAC) address used to wake it.
- Pairing credentials your TVs issue, such as tokens, keys, and PINs, plus a certificate Control creates to pair with Google TV. These are kept in the iOS Keychain on this device and aren’t synced.
- If you set up Home Assistant: your server’s address, its access token (in the Keychain), and the entity names you enter.
- Your settings, such as theme, haptics, and key clicks.
Local Network Access
Control asks for Local Network access so it can find and control your TVs. To find them, it looks for TV services announced on your network and briefly asks each address on your Wi-Fi network whether it’s a TV. Commands go directly from your iPhone to your TV, or to your own Home Assistant server. Control doesn’t send this traffic to the internet.
Your TVs and Other Services
Your TV, streaming apps, and Home Assistant server have their own privacy practices, which this policy doesn’t cover. Many smart TVs collect viewing information; you can usually turn this off in the TV’s privacy settings. When you launch an app such as YouTube or Netflix from Control, that app opens on your TV under its own policies.
Diagnostics
Control includes no analytics or crash-reporting software. If you choose to share analytics with Apple, Apple may provide the developer with anonymous crash reports under Apple’s privacy policy.
Deleting Your Information
To remove a TV and its pairing credentials, open Settings, select the TV, and choose Forget This TV. Deleting the app removes its data. iOS can keep Keychain items after an app is deleted, so forget your TVs first if you want their credentials removed right away.
Children
Control collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear in the app with a new date. Because Control collects nothing, any change that started collecting information would be explained in the app first.
